Shrimp Boil

It’s been a hot minute! I been going through it, completely starved of inspiration and the lockdown hasn’t been great. So I’m back and I’m better with a lil boujee recipe. It’s a shrimp boil I couldn’t get my hands on any crab and lobster so I had to make it a basic shrimp boil, but it was still amazing. This is actually quick and easy to make believe it or not you just throw things in a pot. But make sure issa big pot so everything can fit.

It’s not the healthiest of things but hey we’re in a pandemic and it was a Sunday so I gave myself a free pass. The ingredients are easy to find and also substitute. So let’s jump straight in. The main guest is of course the shrimp (or prawns) whatever you want to call them. I used two different kinds some cooked king prawns and some shelled Argentinian red shrimp, which can be found at Aldi, now it can be a little pricey for just one pack but shrimp in general is pricey so we move! I used a packet of each shrimp. You can add any veg you want to the shrimp boil but Corn on the cob and potatoes are what I went with and usually what most people have with their seafood boil. I also added some boiled eggs and some chicken sausages, because we don’t f with pork around here. This recipe serves two people so you can adjust your ingredients accordingly.

Method

-It’s important to the get the sauce right but let’s start with the basics. Wash your shrimp first, I recommend vinegar and lemon juice, especially if your shrimp is shelled, and of course remove the veins and poop scoop. Start by peeling, washing a dicing two/three red potatoes and leave them to boil until fork tender, along with some corn on the cob. Also boil some eggs (this is optional but it goes well with the shrimp).

For the sauce

-Now you can move onto the sauce for the shrimp boil.

Start by blending one medium yellow onion, three cloves of garlic, 1tsp of chilli paste and 1 spring onion

-Once you’ve blended that together move to the side, take 3-4 tablespoons of salted butter and add to your pot over medium heat, don’t let the butter burn.

-Once the butter has melted add in your blended mix

-Now it’s time to add your spice mix I would advise you can add salt and pepper to your preference and taste but everything else sticking to one teaspoon each worked out great for me.

-Once the blended mix and the spices are mixed in together you can add 250ml of water and let it mix in, leave for 2 mins and add in the raw shrimp they need longer to cook.

-Chop some sausages and add to the sauce.

-Once your potatoes and corn are done you can also add to the sauce along with the boiled egg.

-And lastly you can add the cooked shrimp make sure to reduce the heat towards the end as it can shrink your already cooked shrimp.

-You should leave it on heat for around ten mins, after that remove from the heat and serve. Finish off with some parsley and a squeeze of lemon juice and Voila! Here you have your own shrimp boil.

This is a cute date night meal now that we can’t go out because of the third lockdown and it’s also nice for a Sunday dinner. Bone apple teeth. Happy Eating! Head over to my TikTok and Instagram where you can see pictures and a step by step video @ShefShahira
